5 Insane (But True) Things About Bath Products for Men

Men's Bath Products
Bath Products for Men?  Is there such a thing as Bath Products for Men?  Do Men Like Bath Products?  What Bath Products Do Men Like?   Why Would a Man Want to Take a Bath?  Are Men Who Take Baths Real Men?  Read further for answers to these questions.

Is There Such a Thing as Bath Products for Men?

Yes, there are!  Retailers like Bath and Body Works have several products for men.  Bed, Bath and Beyond also feature men’s products.  Merely doing a Google search turns up hundreds of bath products, and many of them specifically made for men.  So yes, there is such a thing as bath products for men.

I confess that as a woman, I don’t know much about men’s products, so that’s why I began this research.  Perhaps you are looking for a unique Father’s Day gift.  Maybe a bath product would be the answer.

There are bath bombs, bath salts, bath soaps.  There are of course other grooming products for men as well.  Do a little detective work to find out his favorite scents.  Then you can surprise him with a gift that is intentionally unique for his enjoyment.

Do Men Like Bath Products?

I’m going to reason from the fact that there are hundreds of bath products specifically for men, that yes, men like bath products.  I wonder which came first?   Men taking baths because there are manly bath products, or bath products were created because men take baths?

According to my research, men’s products must be distinctly male.  So the scents must be identified as manly and not feminine.  Therefore, no fruity smells, no flower smells and nothing that is pink.

The products must also be functional, especially formulated to get a body clean.  This is probably why many of the products smell fresh and natural, sort of like a walk in a forest in the early morning.  So fragrance is a large part of how popular a bath product will be with men.

What Products Do Men Like?

Interestingly, several products for men in the body wash category are 3-in-1 which means they can be used as a shampoo, conditioner and body wash.  Makes me wonder if men are so lazy they can’t be bothered with three different products!  Sorry guys!

My research states that 3-in-1 products are made for convenience and getting clean.  So if those are your goals, definitely use that.  However, you are sacrificing healthy hair, because you are not getting a quality conditioner.  And you are not getting much skin care because the cleansing chemicals used to clean your hair are not good for your skin.

See this article link Is 3-in-1 Body Wash for Men Worth It?  You’ll get a guy’s review of 3-in1 products.

From my research I found these categories of products seemed to be the most popular:

  • Bath Bombs
  • Skin Moisturizing
  • Relaxing
  • Muscle soothing
  • Cleansing
  • Bath Salts

Scents that were popular with men are:

  • Bergamont
  • Sandalwood
  • Vanilla
  • Pine

Over and over again I noted that Bath and Body Works seems to be a popular store for men’s bath products.  Some of the popular products have names that certainly sound masculine, like Slate, Ocean, and Marble.

Many products now offer essential oils as part of the product.  Most of the oils add fragrance.  Some oils, like lavender, eucalyptus and frankincense can also have medicinal properties as well.  Figure these facts into your purchase.

Here’s a video of a guy that has done some research and comparison.  He seems very invested in his recommendations.

Reasons Men Give for Taking a Bath

Men have some of the same reasons to take a bath that we women have.  Which makes sense.  Here are the following reasons that men give for taking a bath.

  • Clean up
  • Relax
  • Quiet alone time
  • Warm up
  • Heat therapy for sore muscles and other pains
  • Hope partner joins them

Men Who Take Baths Are Real Men!

For some reason, there seems to be a popular misconception that men who take baths are not manly.  I guess that comes from the idea that seeing a man in a bubble bath seems silly.

But from my research, men aren’t usually after a bubble bath as much as a nice hot soak in water that may be infused with some bath salts.  So although men enjoy a bath, they might enjoy it for reasons different from women.

A bath is a multi-use experience.  You can wash yourself to get cleaned up, but also just relax.  You may relax and enjoy your time alone.  Or you may enjoy the heat of the water to warm you up and soothe sore muscles.

Recommendations?

I am not going to make any at this point, as far as a particular product.  However, I will advise that you purchase a product that you are reasonably sure will be one with a fragrance enjoyed by the man.  That’s why I recommend you do some research.  My friend likes Old Spice Aftershave, but I’m not sure he would want to bathe in it.

Also keep in mind the purpose the man wants for taking a bath.  Salts are recommended for sore muscles, and some fragrances can be relaxing.  Just as an aside, Epsom Salts do not have the therapeutic effect they are promoted to have.  See this article:  Can Epsom Salt Relieve Pain? But Not In A Way That You Think.

On the other hand, I have researched some relaxing products, and you can see the recommendations here: What To Put In Your Bath For a Relaxing Experience.

Also, be careful if your man has allergies or skin sensitivity.  Aveeno and Tom’s of Maine have products for men with those issues.

Conclusion

By doing a bit of research and casually talking with your male friend or loved one, you should be able to ascertain some of his personal preferences.   A bath product might be the ultimate surprise as a gift and if researched properly, very appreciated.

Give Mom Something Unique for Mother’s Day | 2024 DIY Ideas

Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be expensive using the following ideas to make your Mother’s Day a unique experience.  Especially if you use some of the DIY suggestions.  Your thoughtfulness and effort will surely be remembered for years to come.

Steps To Consider

How much time can you invest?

Can you prepare ahead of time?

Would she like food?  Or a product?  Or a massage, or facial?

Ask yourself these questions to narrow the choices.  Maybe you can do all the above!  Just start planning now to make the day a success.

Maybe she wants the traditional breakfast in bed!  Or to be taken out for a meal.  Does she want to go for a hike?  Or a bike ride?  Or a drive?  It is important to find out her likes and dislikes before you plan this event.

What Does Your Mom Enjoy?

All of us are different when it comes to how we spend our relaxing time.  So it is important to take some time to think about what your Mom likes.  Some of my friends love to be out and about, seeing new places.  Others like a quiet day at home with loved ones.  And then there are people that like somewhere in between!

Here are some categories with suggestions.

Activities

I’m listing activities that she can do as a family.  After all, that’s what makes it Mother’s Day.  Make sure you have all the necessary equipment; i.e. shoes, jackets, sunscreen.

  • Walking, hiking, or running
  • Trip to the beach, mountains, or lake
  • Games
  • Concerts, movies, museums

Foods

Breakfast in bed is always a hit.  Even though there are several ideas for what to make your Mom for breakfast, always remember what she likes when you plan her meal.  You can do simple, like a bagel and cream cheese, or more complex, like an egg casserole.

Here’s a link for Mother’s Day Breakfast in Bed from Tasty.  Or do a search yourself.

Simple snacks during the day are also appreciated.  As we Moms age, we need to eat small meals throughout the day.  Healthy snacks like nuts and fruit are wonderful to keep our blood sugar steady.

Popular now is a charcuterie board.  Here’s one called The Perfect Charcuterie Board, which is under the category Tastes Better From Scratch.  Add items that your Mom may enjoy.

And of course a lunch or dinner that you prepare, serve and clean up is certainly a home run.  Your Mom will feel very loved from that experience.

All these food categories will be less expensive than a meal in a restaurant.  And you won’t have to fight the crowds.

Mom usually does the pampering.  That’s why this category can be very popular.  It is very much appreciated to have a day dedicated to Mom’s pampering.

To Be Pampered

If you are already providing a meal, why not continue the gift by adding a little pampering?  This doesn’t have to be expensive either.

When we talk about pampering, we think of a massage or a spa treatment.  But you can create a similar experience right at home.

Some suggestions are:

  • A foot massage
  • A back massage
  • A facial
  • A manicure or pedicure
  • A bubble bath

Here’s a sweet video of how this woman blessed her Mom. All these gifts were found at the grocery store!

Foot Massage

First soak her feet in warm water, with some lemon slices, honey and apple cider vinegar.  These additions will soften her skin and cleanse it.  You can then massage her feet with a nice cream that you have purchased.  Or try something simple like vaseline, or a mashed banana.  Wrap in a warm towel for a few minutes for the full effect.  Wipe clean and put on some cozy socks to protect the moisture.

Back Massage

You don’t have to be a licensed masseuse to provide a back massage.  A gentle pressure applied to the back can work wonders to relax and refresh tight muscles.  She doesn’t even have to lie down in case that is uncomfortable.  Simply sitting in a backless chair can allow you to provide a 10 minute massage.

A Facial

Most of us females have some sort of facial product on hand, so you can easily use this.  But in case you don’t you can make a cleanser from yogurt, banana, apple cider vinegar and olive oil.  Wash off.

Then apply a mask.  Again you can make one from oatmeal, honey and milk.  Let the oatmeal soak for a bit. Apply, let rest on your face for 15 minutes, wash off.

Finish with a moisturizer.  Here’s some creative ones; homemade and inexpensive.

Femina.in

A Manicure or Pedicure

You also don’t have to be a trained manicurist to provide this.  Just make sure you have the supplies on hand.  Nail scissors and an emery board are the bare necessities.  And if she likes nail polish, then have that on hand too.  She will be so proud to display your work!

A Bubble Bath

This is my personal favorite, and the reason I started this website.  If your Mom loves a nice bath at the end of the day, then here is where you can get her an inexpensive gift that will bring many happy experiences.  Ask yourself these questions first. Does your Mom:

  • Like fragrances or not?
  • Enjoy Bubble Baths?
  • Salts or Minerals?

If you can answer these questions then you should be able to find a product that she would enjoy.  It is important to choose a product that she would buy for herself, don’t you think?

Popular Bath Products That Are Affordable | A Review

In this article, I compare some popular bath products that are affordable.  I will review Avon, Aveeno, and Dr. Teal’s and provide you with the types of products, where you can buy them, and a price range.  It is my hope you can find a product that gives you some enjoyment in your bath experience.

Why You Might Buy a Bath Product

As you may know from reading my previous posts, I find taking a bath is a wonderful experience.  Not only am I cleaning my body, but I can relax, soothe my chronic pain, and make my skin healthier.

That’s where many bath products come into the picture.  Some products will clean you, others will moisturize, and others will affect your skin to be healthy.

The following products are ones that I have used and seem to be very popular.  I hope my comparisons will be helpful in your search for products that may make your bathing experience one of the best parts of your day.

The Products

I will compare Avon, Aveeno, and Dr. Teal’s products.  I know there are many more companies out there that provide great products, but I like these companies because they aren’t very expensive.  I have affiliate links in this article that take you to companies that sell the product. If you purchase through these links, I receive a referral fee.

Avon

Although you may associate this company with makeup, they have a decent bath products line.  These products include Bath Oils, Bubble Bath, Body Wash, Body Scrub, and Bath Soap.  They also carry Shower Gel and Lotions.

The prices range widely, from $2.50 for soap to $30.00 for Skin So Soft Moisture Bath Oil.  They often run specials and sales, so sometimes you can get a great deal on your favorites.

Especially with the Skin So Soft Products you get the oil which refreshes your skin.  The body scrubs come with aloe or shea butter for added moisturizing.  Some of the products highlight a relaxing ingredient.  So, you have a wide range of options here with Avon.

I have used Avon for years.  I find their products to be affordable and dependable.  Most are highly fragrances though, so if that isn’t your preference, you may want to try Aveeno.

This is an affiliate link to Avon’s website.  If you purchase through this link, I receive a small referral fee.

The great concept about Avon is that individuals can make a career of selling it.  I have read articles where women in other countries are making enough to provide for their families.  I like supporting a company that helps individuals.  They also work toward ending violence against women; see this article.

Avon is a Multilevel Marketing company, so keep that in mind if you have problems with that.

Aveeno

The overall impression I have of this product line is that it uses less chemicals than other products.  I have been using their shampoo and conditioner for some time because there are no sulfates in them.

Their product line isn’t as extensive as Avon, but they do have Body Scrubs and Body Washes.  And under their treatments section they feature their Soothing Oatmeal Bath Treatment or Soak.  Oatmeal is a wonderful natural treatment for itchy skin!

Aveeno promotes natural products, and eco-friendly harvesting and production.  Then they use less additives than other products.  So if you are concerned about Planet Earth, then this would be the product for you.

Prices are also very reasonable, ranging from $6.62 to $9.29.  I have been happy with my Aveeno purchases.  Which include a lotion that I find very moisturizing.

You can purchase Aveeno products through this link to Amazon. I will receive a small referral fee if you purchase through this link. Currently the Oatmeal Soak is almost half off!

Dr. Teal’s

I started using the Lavender Foaming Bath years ago.  I love to take bubble baths and the lavender fragrance has been shown to calm the nervous system.

This company really specializes in bathing products, in fact this is their emphasis.  They have scrubs, body soaks, body wash, foaming baths, body scrubs, and even a foot soak.  I prompte many products containing Epsom salts.

The popular claim is that Epsom salts can relieve pain.  However, I did research for another website and found this not to be the case, according to science.  See my article: Can Epsom Salt Relieve Pain? But Not In A Way That You Think.  Bottom line, Epsom salts may have some restorative benefits, but don’t count on them to relieve your pain.

However, the use of essential oils for fragrance does have some science to back up the calming claim.  One of those oils is lavender, so you can use the Lavender Foaming Bath knowing it will have a relaxing effect.

Most products are very reasonably priced, starting around $4.87 and up to $5.87.  However they feature a special soaking solution with activated charcoal for $16.46. You can purchase Dr. Teal’s products at Amazon. Again, I receive a small referral fee if you buy through this link.

Cautions

As I stated in one of my articles, be careful and safe in the tub.  Many oils and soap additives are slippery and can make the tub surface slippery.  Hold on to the sides of the tub when you get in and get out.

Bubble baths can cause genital irritation, so use sparingly.  It would be a good idea to rinse off that part of your body after a bubble bath.

Those with sensitive skin would probably be safer with Aveeno products, but test a small amount first just to be safe.

Conclusion

I hope this article was helpful as you search for bath products.  If you have other suggestions, please leave them below.  I would love to research other products!  Questions or any other comment are appreciated.

What To Put In Your Bath For a Relaxing Experience

Introduction

For most of us, we bathe to clean our bodies.  But for some of us, we like to soak in the warm water and find it relaxing.  But what if we could up the experience and make our bath even more relaxing?

I think that is possible so I am sharing my research results with you.  I hope you will try one of these suggestions.

Essential Oils

An essential oil is obtained from the essence of plants. The oils have many uses, but for our purposes here, we are going to focus on what oils are recommended for relaxation.  Lavender oil is the most often recommended.  This is because science has actually shown that the aroma of lavender can actually reduce anxiety and therefore be very relaxing.

Here is the study from the National Institute of Health if you want to read about these studies;  Lavender and the Nervous System.

Other oils that are recommended are Rose Oil, Ylang Ylang, Bergamot, Chamomile and Frankincense.  I did a study of essential oils for pain, and found only a few had science backing them up.  Only lavender made the cut.  If you want to read about it, here is the article; Pain Relief With Essential Oils. Do They Work?

Ginger

What To Put In Your Bath For a Relaxing Experience

Much has been said about the anti-inflammatory properties of ginger and how it can help with digestion.  But Asian cultures have been using ginger in the bath for ages, as it is believed to balance out circulation.  And a secondary benefit is that it encourages sleep.

There are many bath products containing ginger that are available online.  I have an affiliate link here that provides you the option to purchase.  If you do so, I receive a referral fee.  Bath Salts with Ginger and Lemon Oil. This product has a 4.6 star rating and is an Overall Pick on Amazon.

Oatmeal

From my previous article, Best Bath Products for Itchy Skin and Other Helpful Products, you learned that an oatmeal soak or lotion is wonderful for itchy skin.  It is also helpful for relaxing as well.

Although there appears to be no chemical reaction from oatmeal that affects your mood, the fact that it will nourish your skin, calm itchiness and hydrate your skin, should lead to a relaxing effect.

And you probably have oatmeal on hand so you can make an oatmeal soak today!

Coconut Oil

My research didn’t actually show that coconut oil relaxes you.  But it has been shown to nourish your skin, thus reducing the signs of aging.  So I guess you could say that if you know your skin will look younger when after you soak in coconut oil, you will feel calmer and younger!

Be extra careful not to add too much.  This oil is especially slippery; on your skin and the bottom of the tub once it is drained.  Keep some big towels close by.

Milk

What To Put In Your Bath For a Relaxing Experience

This is another product that doesn’t have scientific support for relaxing you, but does have other benefits.  The fats in milk can nourish your skin, thereby reducing itching and dryness.  You can use almost any milk, except for skim because it doesn’t have enough fat.  You can even use dry milk.

However, if you want a natural product with relaxing fragrances added, here’s a suggestion. Moisturizing Lavender Chamomile Milk Bath. This product checks all the boxes because it comes with chamomile, lavender and shea butter. I’d be careful I didn’t fall asleep in the bathtub! It has a 4.6 star rating on Amazon. This is another affiliate link, where I earn a fee if you purchase.

Other Items To Include For a Relaxing Experience

Dim lights

Bright lights will not enhance your bathing experience.  Bright light makes you more alert.  And you want the opposite.  So hopefully you have a dimmer switch or a muted option for your bathroom.

Just be careful to not make it too dark.  Bathtub safety is my main concern, so have your area lit enough to be able to see and be safe.

Candles

Most of us women enjoy the fragrances and waving flame of a candle.  Adding this in your bathroom can provide a relaxing environment, especially if it is an aromatherapy candle.  You can have one or many.  This will also add light to the area.

What To Put In Your Bath For a Relaxing Experience
KrysMantovani/Pixabay

Again, practice safety.  Have the candle in a safe container, and preferably away from you knocking it over.  If it is on the counter, make sure it is away from towels and paper products.  Think safety first!

Relaxing Music

Choose what you like in this category.  Our musical tastes can be so different, so find your favorite.  Use a small bluetooth device to enhance the experience.  Keep the volume low though for more relaxation.

Bath Caddy

There are so many variations available!  You can go very simply with a basket beside your bathtub.  Some suggestions for the contents would be a towel and your bathing products including what you would add to your bath.  Do you want to read?  Then your book and glasses.  (Though the following video says don’t read; it causes neck strain.)

There are also many versions of the caddy that fits over both sides of the tub, like a bridge.  There are wood ones, plastic ones, and metal ones.  Some even have a stand to hold your book up.  I plan to write a review about bath caddies in the future. In the meantime, you can search the web. There are several available.

A Few Words of Caution

Before you use any product in your bath water, check to see if you have a sensitivity or reaction to it, by putting a small amount on your skin.  Wait a bit to see if you have any reaction.

Also do not, under any circumstances, use electronics while bathing.  Water and electricity can kill you!

Some oils and soaps will make the bottom of your bathtub slippery.  Make sure they are dissolved and dispersed in the water before you step in.  Hold on to the side or to your safety bar as you slowly step in.  And be careful getting out as well.  Use your towel to dry your hands so you have a better grip while you get out.

Conclusion

I would love to hear of some other ideas you have to make your bath experience relaxing. And if you have questions, or comments, please leave them below.

Best Bath Products for Itchy Skin and Other Helpful Products

Do you have itchy skin?  Do you want to get some relief?  Of course you do!  Are there products that can help with this problem?  Yes there are! Read more to learn about the Best Bath Products for Itchy Skin and Other Helpful Products.

Why Does My Skin Itch?

First, itchy skin or parts of your skin that itch may be caused by a variety of things.

There are the situations where you get an occasional itch from sunburn, poison ivy or a bug bite.  These are certainly irritating, but not considered chronic.  Other causes could be an allergic reaction or dry skin.

Best Bath Products for Itchy Skin and Other Helpful Products
DMFhotography/Pixabay

Chronic itchy skin is classified as an itch that lasts longer than six weeks.  This situation can be very disruptive and agonzing.  These could be skin conditions like eczema or shingles.  Or they could be infectious diseases like ringworm or scabies.

It is best to see a doctor if your itchy skin persists.  You may need a diagnosis and a prescription.  Here is a great resource link from the American Academy of Dermatology which provides some good information.

But if you are only experiencing occasional itchiness, then these recommendations may help.

Easy Recommendations for Relieving Itchy Skin

The easiest and cheapest possible solutions are probably available to you right now!  They are:

  • Use a cold wet cloth or ice pack on the itchy area.  Don’t leave on too long.  The ice could damage your skin tissue.  I leave it on for a few seconds, remove, then reapply.  I have read that 10 minutes is the maximum time you should allow ice to be on your skin.
  • Moisturizer with a lotion that has moisturizing properties.  Avoid fragrances, as these can cause itching in certain individuals.  Put the lotion in the refrigerator for a bit.  The coolness will calm the itching.
  • Apply a baking soda paste.  Use one tablespoon of baking soda with a few drops of water, rub on irritation, let sit for 10 minutes, wash off.
  • Calamine lotion is still highly recommended for skin irritations.  Apply as directed.

Bathing Recommendations for Relieving Itchy Skin

Although it may be tempting to soak in a hot bath, the hot water will probably increase the itching.  A warm bath is recommended in this case.  Warm is considered to be about 98 degrees.  Here are suggestions for making the bathtub a remedy for itchy skin.

  • Add baking soda!  Yes, just as it is helpful as a paste applied to the skin, it is also helpful in the tub.  Add ¼ to ½ a cup to a warm bath and soak for 10 minutes.
  • Make an oatmeal bath.  Oatmeal has many soothing properties.  You should grind about a cup in a food processor so it is very fine.  Your goal is to have it mix with the water (to form a colloid), and not drop to the bottom of the tub.  Soak in a warm bath for 10 minutes.
  • Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment is a product you can purchase.  The product contains only colloidal oatmeal!  Which you can make with your food processor and oatmeal, as I stated above.  But if you want to purchase it, here is a link.  I receive a small referral fee if you purchase the product through this link.
Best Bath Products for Itchy Skin and Other Helpful Products
  • SheaMoisture African Black Soap Soothing Bath Powder is another recommended product.  This product combines the colloidal oatmeal with shea butter, which is a wonderful moisturizing product. It also contains rice bran. Here’s the link to Amazon. I receive a small referral fee if you purchase from this link.
  • Eczema Honey Oatmeal Comfort Bubble Bath.  Don’t let the name fool you.  It is a wonderful product that is made for sensitive skin conditions, and will help you feel less itchy and moisturized at the same time.  Plus this has the benefit of bubbles, for those of us who are still children at heart.  A great review by a satisfied customer, here.  5 stars.

Other Helpful Products

  • Use Domeboro.  This is a medicated powder that you can make into a soak by adding water.  I have used it over the years, and it never fails to bring relief.  Here’s a link to the product site.  I do not have an affiliate relationship with this product, but highly recommend it.
  • Another surprising home remedy that is cheap is vinegar.  I have seen recommendations using both apple cider and white vinegar.  Not only should it quiet the itching, but it is an antibacterial, so if you have open sores, it will help heal.  It might sting though!  Just dab some on a cotton ball and pat onto the itch.
  • Have an aloe vera plant?  Cut off part of a leaf, cut it open, and scrape the gel out.  Apply to skin.  Also has healing properties.
  • After using any of these products, you may want to moisturize with a lotion.  If so, use one without fragrances and added chemicals, which can dry out skin and cause more itching.

Disclaimer

I am not a doctor.  All these ideas I have posted are ones I have either researched or tried.  If you are concerned about any product, try it on a small area of your skin before you use it more extensively.  If you don’t have any adverse reactions, then it is probably safe for you to use.  That is even true for baking soda!  Some people are sensitive to it!

Otherwise, contact your doctor!  Or a pharmacist.

And please be very safe when you bathe. I wrote an article on bathing safety. Click here to read it; How To Be Safe in the Bathtub.
